Designing light as the interface to guide users from stress to sleep through rhythm and warmth
The Opportunity
Falling asleep today often begins with commands—setting alarms, configuring apps, silencing notifications. In a screen-filled world of control and automation, the transition into rest has become a task.
What if …
Light could guide the body and mind into rest without being told to?
The Insight
Children struggle to interpret the concept of bedtime because they cannot feel time.
Adults grasp time all too well—yet find it difficult to let it go.
The Approach
Dormire is a wall-mounted interactive object, reminiscent of a bookshelf, but designed to behave like a living, breathing presence. Inspired by piano keys, each shelf becomes a glowing "note" in a visual lullaby. The system activates when a user enters the room, offering a multisensory interaction through light, space, and story.

Challenges the ideas of “smart” design
By making intelligence ambient and invisible. It shows how light—when treated as rhythm rather than utility—can support emotional transitions and deepen routines.
